Team NMB - 2005-2008

Hello everyone...

For those of you who aren't into reading a whole lot --- this is your paragraph: Starting September 8th, 2008, we will be discontinuing the Team NMB race team. The website and online community will remain intact, but the race team will be coming to an end.

The long version: This is good news...Back in 2005, a short while after the nmb website started, I was approached about adding a team to the slowly growing online community platform. With intentions of myself working on the website, and having 2 team leaders running the team, this sounded like a great plan. We all soon found out that running a race team was actually work!! By the end of the first race season, it was apparent we had blown ourselves up, and we looked for new leadership.

Season 2: 2007. We were able to find two new/fresh people to help with the leadership. Once again, the goal being that they'd run the team, and I'd run the website --- or some mixture there-of. Things went awesome - but as in the first year, burn out and of course, the small mental and physical pay-off became the main-stay of running a 40 person race team.

Season 3: 2008. Nearly disbanding due to a lack of determination to find new leadership on my part, 2 more strappin' young lads step in to take over duties of team nmb. Things have been great so far this year - THANK YOU to Kelly and Tryon for taking up my slack in the beginning of the year to get this re-started!! As the year has gone on, we all have realized that we're not so much doing this as our own passion for running a team, iinstead, it almost feels like a mandatory task that we have the team. And that has proven to be a heavy weight to bare. After some heavy thoughts about goals for the future, we've decided collectively that it's time for team nmb to come to an end. (With a sigh, a smile, and bit of a sad shrug for realizing it's time to move on!!)

Hopefully, a summary: Things have been awesome with Team NMB. I've met so many riders, friends, and acquaintances because of this race team. The problem is simply that for the last 3 years, it's been a project that wasn't ever a part of the goal when nmb was created. Without a passion for actually running a team like this, it always tends to be more like a non-paying job for a few people. When we have to completely rebuild each year, it's can be quite daunting, and although it's a great service for the mountain biking community, it's not what's in my heart - to run a race team.

All that said --- Thank you to EVERYONE in the community who has helped with Team NMB. Thank you to the riders, the supporters, the leadership, even the people who questioned such a crazy thing -- it helped us to shape our goals each year!! Nothing will change about the nmb online community, except that hopefully it will grow stronger, and continue to be a place where people from all styles of riding, all race teams, and many different communities can come together to talk about mountain biking!!

Last but not least...One thing that nmb has always been about is creating a place for everyone. That held true with our race team too. One of the wonderful things about the team, was that it didn't matter if you just started riding yesterday, or if you were a seasoned veteran. I hope that from this crew maybe there can somehow be another, or several teams that branch off of nmb. There are other local organizations that may wish to start up a team like this -- and not only do I welcome that idea completely --- I really hope it happens, and would give full support to such a venture!!

For those who have joined Team NMB within the last 30 days, please contact me asap for refunds of the team fee!! reedly@comcast.net

Thank you to everyone for the sweet ride!!! We'll see you on the trails soon!!

Reed

Three group rides were conducted this winter. We enjoyed riding together at AEDC in Tullahoma, Cotton Mill Preserve in Fayetteville, and Percy Warner Park in Nashville. We also assisted SORBA and Dirt Sweat and Gears with clean up and trail maintenance.

We would like to thank all those who participated in the group rides! Hopefully everyone had a great time and enjoyed some tasty mexican food. Race season is now upon us, hopefully you are prepared!! Let's get er' done! Thanks, Kelly
