Dirt Sweat & Gears - May 3rd, 2008

Dirt Sweat and Gears 2008     SSUSA 2008

If you make it to only one mountain biking event in 2008, no matter where you live - you must make it to this event! For more information visit www.DirtSweatandGears.com!

That's right - it's time to sign yourself or your team up for the next DSG event!! With the field expected to cap out for the 2008 running of DSG, everyone wants to put the race date in red ink on their calendar and get online to reserve their entry for May 3, 2008. “We’re limiting the field this year because the goal is to keep the race challenging and competitive while keeping things running smoothly on-course,” says Race Director Clay Higgins, adding “as for the rest of the weekend we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves.” Given the overwhelming success of 2007 race, raising the bar won’t be easy. With Dejay Birtch helping to stir the festival’s pot, “single speeders beware” says Higgins.

» Tara Llanes - Downhill & BMX Rider Injured

On Saturday September 1st 2007, the BMX and mountain biking worlds suffered a tremendous tragedy. While competing in the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek Colorado, one of the greatest athletes the sport has known, Tara Llanes, suffered a horrific crash during the first run of her semi-final heat. Tara was rushed to Vail Valley Hospital, then airlifted to Denver Health Hospital a short time later. Following seven hours of surgery to the back and spinal cord, it was determined she had no feeling from the waist down.

Please show your support for Tara by visiting www.tarallanesroadtorecovery.com and making a donation to the Road to Recovery Fund through one of the avenues listed.

» National Mountain Bike: A welcome & Overview
Hello! Welcome to NationalMountainBike.com!!

Updated June 2007:

Are you looking for people to ride with in your local area? Do you have a race or event you'd like post? Maybe you've got some technical gear questions you'd like answered?

Our goal with NMB is to bring a true sense of community to mountain bikers on a National level. The board is divided by states, which all have their own sub-forums such as "Upcoming Events," "Open Discussion," "New Members," etc...We're hoping to give riders a place to actually meet other riders in their area. Most of today's popular message boards don't give users the option to post by state, which makes it difficult to feel a sense of community. One of the best things about the NMB message board is that offers you a chance to meet the people you're reading messages from and posting with.

To get started click the ALL FORUMS page from the links at the top of this page. From there you'll be able to find your state and immediately begin posting messages in your local area. Be sure to stop by the "New Members" section of your state to introduce yourself!!

Please feel free to post your local mtb website within your region...Anything to help riders find information about where to ride, who to ride with, etc...Let us know if you have any questions.

We have created this website based on the success of the local website www.NashvilleMountainBike.com. Feel free to visit the TN region of this message board just to see a sample of how NMB is alive and well!!

Thank you for visiting, and please help us in keeping NMB a family-friendly place to meet other riders, plan rides, chat, etc...We would like to help grow the sport of mountain biking for more than just adults, and that means creating an environment where parents would feel safe letting their kids browse these boards too!!

Thank you!

» Ride for Reading

RideforReading.org is in the beginning stages. Their goal is to raise enough funding so that the organization can successfully move through the developmental process. At first, they need funding to complete the "technicalities." As an established organization, we want to utilize our cycling community to assist in the funding of books for children who are not fortunate enough to own their own.

Reading is an intricate part of education, and without books it is hard to build a strong academic thought base. Our children need materials to read at home. It is Ride for Reading's goal to provide these children with books.
