SSUSA Friday May 2nd. The day before DSG.

As most of you know, we've added a race before DSG for this year. SSUSA ("Single Speed USA") is a collaboration between ourselves, pro SS Wonderboy Dejay Birtch (Niner Bikes) and reigning DSG SS champ Fuzzy John Mylne (Sho-Air). As I've had more than a few questions about what exactly we are planning for SSUSA I thought I'd offer a few hints.

The event is designed as a "trifecta" of sorts with three sucessive events randomly involving bicycles, two pedals, one gear, beer, a Mule named Merle, some fine Colorado Whiskey, and a few big Ol' Hills. Survive the first round make it to round two, survive round two and you are in the championship round. Survive the last round and you can take home the belt!

The plan for SSUSA is to share this event with a new venue each year. This year Fayetteville's Cottonmill Preserve, next year...who knows?

Word on the street is that we may see the world famous Lalonde Brothers for the big throwdown. These fella's are uber fast and ride for Gary Fisher, and as Gary will be in attendence I expect that they will be bringing their "A" games. As a bonus our special guest announcer for SSUSA is reigning DSG Champion and all around good guy Nat Ross.

Sponsors for SSUSA are Yazoo, Vassago Bicycles, Stranahan's Whiskey, and Blacksheep Cycles.

SSUSA start at high noon on Friday May 2nd.

So to recap, SSUSA in a nutshell:

Two Pedals, One Speed, Good Beer, A Mule, a Few Big Ol' Hills, and a some Fine Whiskey...

Hope to see you all there.

Thanks,

Grant

Good news! We're getting the band back together!

Hot off the presses the Squirrels at DSG just learned that our friends at Dirt Rag Magazine have selcted SSUSA and DSG as a stop on the one and only Dirt Rag World Tour!

Expect to see Karl, Justin, Eric, and maybe Muarice and Carol to once again put on a big show at the race. They will also be representing the Dirt Rag team on the race course, and as their results from last year's pow-wow show, these folks can not only write about bikes, they can also ride them!

I'm sure they will be bringing another boat load of schwag and I'd recommend getting to their booth early as they sold out in a flash last year.

Thanks DirtRag!

You guys must have some serious marketing experience or are just plain geniuses. Or both. Great job!

I may have to look into this SS thing more closely.
Get drunk, ride a bike & a mule... hey that's what I call a race.

Ha! Sounds more like a format found in a Mexican show bar. I know (though not personally) that no good can come from mixing booze and farm animals.

That said, ya gotta love the SS guys!

Of course you love us. When a roadie sez you're crazy for riding dirt ...you get to say--nooooo the guys who do it with ONE effing gear, they're crazy.

And then we love the 63xc type (fixed off road) because when you say the SS'ers are crazy, we get to say--noooo the fixie guys are the crazy ones.

Now who is it--oh yeah. The fixie guys love the unicyclists...

But seriously. It's the SSers who demand beer at every event.

I'll be able to run DS&G this year, looking for a team. Looking for fun and competitive, probably in that order!

Hey Grant, or anybody that knows, isn't there an elevation chart for this course somewhere? I seem to remember seeing one last year but can't seem to find it now. I'm assuming the course will pretty much be the same as last year, yes... no? Thanks!

Ok, here's another question that may have been covered elsewhere, but... will folks be able to pre-ride the course Friday since the SSUSA event is going on that day?

Just wanted to say a quick word of many, many thanks to all who helped on the trails on Saturday, especially to Darryl for putting it together. Your help was much appreciated and will be in primo condition because of your efforts. Stay tuned for the double top-secret ride day...

Who is the young one in the photo? A really nice shot. A beautiful tree brought into view also. Too often we only see the ground in front of us.

A new twist for the twisted

Don't like what ya got for Christmas? Haven't signed up for SSUSA? Didn't make the cut to SSWC? Well, turn that frown upsde down cowboy. In addition to the shenanigans planned for SSUSA, Curtis and the gang at SSWC will be rolling in to TN on May 2 with two spots to SSWC '08 in hand for some unsuspecting SS dude and gal. What are you waiting for slacker?

This is big! The SSWC08 sold out in less than 10 minutes this year. Folks had to wait until the strike of midnight pacific time on January 1st to sign up. A huge thanks to Curtis Inglis for making the trip out and offering up the two "golden tickets" to the big dance.
