Bad Roomates-Advice?

I never once had a bad roommate in Seattle, but I got a very crappy one here in the 'boro. I could write pages but this is a short list of what has happened in my (roughly) a month here:
  • Case of beer stolen (twice) with roommate saying the beer was his.
  • Bottle of Chardonnay stolen and gifted to his girlfriend with him claiming it was his.
  • Giving out all my food when he comes back only to party
  • Trashed the place after I cleaned it (3 times)
  • While high, trashed a run of audio cable I just bought via wire cutters
  • Told me that it was my problem and he wasn't responsible when asked about it
  • Wants his buddy to move into my apartment.

As of today, there was supposed to be a meeting at 11:00 this morning to discuss 'issues that had arose'. This never happened because he didn't show up and he neglected to inform me, so I showed up for a meeting just to be told it was called off. I was given this paper at about 11:30 last night as I was getting to go to sleep. The 'problems' Listed are that I keep the apartment too dirty and I trash it. Problem with that is, my check in report lists the place as trashed, and it was so bad the apartment had to hire cleaners and he has been in Florida on vacation and bouncing between his mommy and daddy in west Tennessee and his girlfriend in Nashville.

My problems with him (the other guy is pretty cool, but he went back for the summer) is that:
  • He's a coke head (No, Seriously)
  • He resorts to manipulation to try to get what he wants
  • He has never had a job in his life
  • He pretty much steals and breaks my crap, then tells me it's my problem, but says I have trust issues when I move all my food into my closet and mini-fridge.

I did put in for a room transfer and was willing to pay the 200 bucks to do so primarily because I don't want to deal with this guy, but I'm in a third story apartment and I picked it out for two reasons:
  • Security
  • The View

However there aren't any third story apartments open and I'm willing to deal with immature roommate drama for the security. Today he said he worked everything out for a room transfer via text and when I asked him where the papers were and what room I'd be moving to, he said I had to go to the office and upon talking to the lady who handles room transfers, she recalls the roomate and the friend that wants to move into my room asking about it, but that nothing went further than that. Later today he says he might be able to have the meeting, but when I asked him why he doesn't move out if he wants to live with his buddy, he said because it's harder to move two people out and I have less stuff so it'd be easier to move me out.

Considering most people on this board are older than me, and I don't have any family in Tennessee-how would you handle this situation?

Move, and stop letting someone else pick out your roommates for you.

No point in dealing with coke heads.

Considering this is a public forum, I'd hope everything you said is 100% true.

Also, move.

You've let him go farther than I would have let him. It would be me or him, and all the things listed above would be said to his face and not in a nice tone. He's an immature idiot

Arsenic...... It's symptoms are flu-like. When he gets sick and has to go to the E.R. They will think he has the Flu. But you didn't hear that from me. Good luck. I know people that might be able to help you out...But you didn't hear that from me. If you know what I mean.

You guys over complicate things. What you do is stick a penny in a lamp light socket then screw the bulb back in. But first you go to the circuit breaker and figure out which circuit it's on so you know which one to go for that way you trip their circuit and not yours.

But yeah, You can delete this if you want. I put in the papers for a new room and took a guy in the office around the apartment and they said they'd waive fee for me soon as they get an open room. Problem solved.

i'd just pee on him and tell him to gtfo.

i'm normally very tolerant, but when it gets to the point of taking and or ruining my things. time to MAKE it stop.

Here is an idea… Maybe take responsibility for the decisions that you have made in your life and figure it out for yourself. You said that you don’t want lose the third story place because of security!!??? How about you already have gotten crap stolen from your roommate. Yeah, sounds pretty secure. That doesn’t sound like security. Next time tell us something relative about mtb and leave the coke stories out of it.

Since no one said it im going to point this out, if the cops come in to the apt and there coke in it youre all going to jail. Sounds like your going to get thrown under the bus, if that happens and you will end up with at least probation. You live in the boro,I lived on second ave downtown first floor, take a risk I doubt your going to get robbed. Maybe see a a shrink and figure out why you let people walk all over you. I wouldnt care about the booze but some one cuts my audio cords it on like donky kong. You know they have specfic fourms to discuss stuff like this

I was gonna say get a carry permit but Mikey beat me to it. The pee-in-the-beer is the solution. However, I'd get an keyed entry lock for my stash closet...or bedroom.

Problem is NOT solved! At least not until you either destroy or swipe an equal or greater amount of items than he destroyed or stole from you. Then when he comes to ask you about it, you reply either "not my problem" or "that was mine". Just make sure you don't swipe anything with a serial number on it.

Dude, problem is solved. They moved out because I got the room their roomate wanted and no other single rooms with the same rate were open for me, the place even got new carpets and paint, I have a steady job and am one year away from Texas A&M, and I've already gotten an equal amount of what they swiped with their consent.

Lesson learned:

Southern hospitality is like southern humidity- it sucks. I miss Seattle :(
