Hammy Trimming Party - Tues. July 27 - 5-7 pm

Meet at the Ned Shelton Trailhead.

Tuesday, July 27
5-7pm

If you have your own tools (loppers, trimmers, pulaskis, macleods, action hoes, etc.), you are more than welcome to bring them. Bring extras if you have them - NO CHAINSAWS PLEASE - I know, I know... boo/hiss... If there are some major obstacles that need to be removed, we'll have them taken out at a later date.

Also, it's going to be muy calor (hot), so bring plenty to drink. Dress appropriately - boots, gloves, eye protection, etc.

I'd like to do a reconnaissance ride either Sunday morning or on Monday afternoon to identify the areas that need it the most.

We're not building any new trail, just giving the old one a little attention that it deserves.

Depending upon response to this thread, we could get the SORBA Trailer!!!

If you have any questions, you can pm me or post up. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of people!!!! Thanks!

Colin

I will be there. I have some tools - matic, loppers, pruners. Do I need to bring my string trimmer?

I'll bring my lopppers/trimmers whatever its called! there's a lot of deadfall that just needs to be moved off the trail which won't require any tool at all.

If you received an email from Darryl stating that the trimming was to be today, I wanted to clear up the confusion - totally my fault - sorry!

I will be at the Ned Shelton trailhead today - July 26 and tomorrow - July 27 at 5 pm to do trimming. I had originally wanted to do a walk thru today to identify areas to be trimmed Tuesday, but the email that I sent out had the date set for today instead of tomorrow. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion & thank you Carolyn for bringing it to my attention!

If this is even more confusing, please contact me directly @ 2eight9 - seven9six7.

Thanks!

I trimmed the Fiddleback section last night. Good to meet you Steve. I've got my eye on the weather for this afternoon. If it's just sprinkling/light rain, I'll probably still go out to trim, but if the storms are stronger/thunder/lightning - of course, we'll postpone until another day.

If we're on today, bring loppers & hedge trimmers. I'll have my power trimmer out with a blade head if we need it & a few extra tools - shovels, pulaski, rake, blower, etc.

There was a question about what to expect this afternoon. I'm figuring that we'd start from the Ned Shelton Road (where I left off last night before entering the Fiddleback section) and work our way back toward the tunnel. It has been conveyed to me by riders that there is a tree down possibly along this section of trail. It's not very big, so it shouldn't be a problem removing it. We'll assess when we find it.

You are more than welcome to bring your bike, especially for a night ride after, but it does tend to make it a little difficult stopping often to trim. Personally, I've found it easier to just grab some tools, walk in and go at it.

Thanks again to everyone for all of the interest in this project. I'd like to make this ongoing (1 or 2 days a month) until the whole trail has been covered.

Got a lot done last night, but still only scratched the surface. Still did not find that downed tree but will find it tonight on the ride.

Thanks to everyone who came out - Reed, Amy, Martin, Chris & Yvonne! Good food and cold beer afterward!

Looking to have another Trimming Party in 2 weeks - either Tuesday August 10 or Wednesday August 11 @ 5:30pm. Gimme some input to which day works better for everyone. Meet at Ned Shelton Trailhead.

Cleared tons of feet and face slappers last night. Our group cleared from the ned sheldon entrance (away from the parking lot) to what used to be called unibrow's rock, or the big rock climb that you get to before you reach the pinnacle/mayan pyramid downhill. Colin's group went in the trail backwards at the road before Ned Sheldon.

The next one should get us much farther into the trail, and hopefully we'll get that tree which is supposed to be over by the Hammy Brewery somewhere.

Had a great time out there - minus the tick garden that Amy stepped into - again!! Ugh.

Thanks Colin for setting this work day up...and the next one! LOL

Stupid ticks! No more stepping off the trail or leaning against trees for me! And yes I had on bug spray.... but it doesn't exactly work when you step in a swarm of them.

I managed to get every last one though so now I'm good until the next nest! Besides that, it was a great day to do some trail work!

We got a good amount done, but there is still a lot of work to be done on the advance side. To all of the riders here that enjoy this trail, I urge you to try to come out and give a little of your time and help get it back in shape.

I'm kinda out of the loop right now guys, I'll be back soon, but thanks for taking care of the trail.

If your a newbie, it's these kind of posts you need to respond to, to meet new people to ride with & understand what it takes to build & maintain a trail!!!

There's no better way to meet new people & get a good look at what your trying to ride, than to actually walk the trail & maintain it, then to ride what you just worked for... besides... there's always food & beer afterwards.
